It is said that “ Greenery is the best scenery “ and we all would agree with it because wherever there are plants, we feel so refreshed. Nature is at its best when everything is green, green is the color of Happiness and Peace, if you ask me!! Having a rough day? Go for the mountains. Need to think and focus? Go to the mountains. There is nothing a good green mountain trek cannot solve!
It is sad that in order to refuel ourselves with all the greenery and nature we have to go far away in the mountains, aim for the Northern sides because Industries and Buildings are increasing day by day, they say everything is modernizing, but we have long forgotten that we may be industrializing but for that, large scale deforestation is done that leaves us with No big beautiful plants but, just big Buildings to look at!! Measuring the total rate of habitat conversion (defined as change in forest area plus change in woodland area minus net plantation expansion) for the 1990-2005 interval, Pakistan lost 14.7% of its forest and woodland habitat.
But fret No More!! NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has just recently put up some images that show that the greenery in Pakistan has increased contributing it’s part in making this world a little more greener. It has grown in double digits since the past few decades, and it is increasing by leaps and bounds. According to a report released by the FAO (The Food and Agriculture Organization) the Arable land area in Pakistan has increased from 36,252,000 hectares to 36,844,000 hectares.
This is not only a great environmental factor but also our forests are a home to billions of various species. According to the figures given by World Conservation Monitoring Center , Pakistan has 1027 known species of amphibians, birds, mammals and reptiles. Of these, 3.5% are endemic, meaning they are unique and exclusive and exist in no other country, and 5.5% are threatened. Pakistan is a safe haven for at least 4950 species of vascular plants, of which 7.5% are endemic.
A big portion of this astonishing improvement can be credited to the Intensive agriculture in the Punjab and Sindh provinces.
Another huge credit must be given to Mr Khan’s Billion tree tsunami, as this tree plantation drive is also undoubtedly increasing the tree count in Pakistan and is making it greener and cleaner. It has also motivated and encouraged many other Pakistanis too, to take part in it and Plant trees!
Let us all hope and pray that May this green tint keeps getting added to our pure land and one day we will surpass China and India that according to NASA are currently globally leading and are accounted for one-third of the greening!
Let us all Plant trees and Plant flowers as no other nation can do it better than us because our flag also signifies GREEN!!
