Few days ago, a decision was made by Peshawar’s local government that the female students of all the govt. sector schools are bound to wear either abayas or chadars in order to cover themselves. The notification was issued by District Education Officer Samina Ghani. The motive given by the authority is
“in order to protect them from any unethical incident”.
Adviser to KP CM on Education Ziaullah Bangash was reported to have said that the decision had been made keeping in view the traditions and religious values, adding that parents should remove their fears and get their girls educated.
As soon as the notification was issued, a hype was seen in the society with respect to gender inequality & the restrictions imposed on the female gender in our society. People opposed this notification of the government. The government had to reconsider their decision keeping in mind the considerations of the people. As a result of which, the government backed off from their decision. Secretary Education Arshad Khan said that the government would rescind the notification. Chief Minister KP Mahmood Khan issued directives to withdraw this notification & said that it was issued without government’s consent.
If such steps are to be taken by the authority then there’s a big question mark on the performance of the new generation of our society. How can a country progress when a huge lot of a nation is restricted to perform due to such segregations of a society?
