If I had a nickel for every time people told me their favourite pastime was watching series!
Gone are the days, when reading was the only way to spend spare time.
After the finale of Game of Thrones, HBO is back in the game with Chernobyl, which is a mini-series based on the 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear Plant Explosion- one of the most horrible anthropogenic disasters ever, and the makers have tried to do full justice to it.
It retells the story of the disaster which forced the city of Pripyat, a part of the Soviet Union to evacuate after being exposed to toxic levels of radiation when core of a nuclear reactor opened, sending plumes of radioactive material into the air taking many lives by cancer and acute radiation sickness.
“I always defaulted to the less dramatic because the things that we know for sure happened are so inherently dramatic,”- Craig Maizan (the writer and producer)
The reason behind is still not fully known and its aftermath is pretty serious as even today the new generations living in close proximity to it are born with deformities and blood diseases.
Cannot recommend #Chernobyl enough. Stunning, important television. Closest thing I can think to compare it to in terms of scale, pace, detail, etc. is Band of Brothers. Not a comparison one makes lightly.
